Crowd – Apps on Google Play"Crowd" is an Augmented Reality project with which the user, via smartphone or tablet, has the ability to access intangible 3D models at key points in Thessaloniki and consequently in other locations.
Bearing in mind that movement and placement in a space can become part of a creative process, it transforms the public space into a mental construction by offering information-rich material. For example, these individual postures that dictate the body not only as content, its position and contact points with the surface but they activate a sense and geometry of the urban landscape as well as narratives about places or situations that display intimacy.
At the same time, questions arise as to whether such a visual venture could have an impact on real space, as an entity or even as an event. Inevitably, this situation extends our perception of the natural and the virtual beyond the simplistic approach of material and immaterial, to a promising hybridity that is increasingly being integrated into human physiology. If such a scenario seems distant, then perhaps Nathan Jurgenson’s “digital dualism”¹ seems more familiar as he captures the “digital” and the “natural” as different states because there will always be a distinction between flesh and our commitment to new media. However, it might be useful as a conceptual model that can open a dialogue on an emerging cultural example.
The purpose of the application is to offer an alternative interaction between project, viewer and natural environment in real time, since the choice in this case is clearly in the hands of the viewer, when and if they will come in contact with the project.
