Vasilis Michailidis (b. 1980, Kazakhstan) lives and works in Thessaloniki. His practice incorporates different forms of art and expression. On the one hand, he explores the possibilities of the painting process as these works are based on the idiomatic quality of the medium. Michailidis has developed a vocabulary which is structured both by abstract rhythmic systems and also by elements that can be encountered in a representational painting. On the other hand, his interest turns to new media and, in particular, to the way in which new technologies shape hybridity requirements and perceptions around concepts such as the public sphere. Studied Painting at the School of Visual and Applied Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2010). He has a Master degree in Art and the Public Sphere from AUTH (2022). He taught artistic practice as an Appointed Lecturer (2023) and Academic Fellow (2021, 2018) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and the International Hellenic University (IHU). He obtained Award for the 2nd Prize of the 6th Student Biennale of the Fine Arts Schools in Greece (2011), Award from the Special Account for Research Funds of AUTH (2021), recognition from the CIMA Foundation in Italy (2011), and the Annual Scholarship of the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (2009).
